Neil Averitt commentary: The Big Disconnect – Academic economists and public administration

( June 30, 2014) -- There has always been some gap between academic economists on the one hand, and the corridors of public administration on the other. But the true extent of that gap became painfully apparent during the American Antitrust Institute’s recent conference on “The Inefficiencies of Efficiency,” held June 19 at the Press Club. The economists in power today are perfectly clear in recognizing the weaknesses in efficiency claims, but often have trouble translating their perceptions into policy. They need to become better at generalizing and drawing bright lines....
